The Best Business Law Books

Published: Saturday, April 7th, 2012 | Posted in Free Books

Whether you are an entrepreneur, an employee or a business major in college, you will encounter various aspects of commercial law in your daily life. Commercial law is one of the most important things that every businessman out there needs to know about, and it constantly changes. Consequently, you are going to read some business law books to keep yourself updated.

Theories can be boring, especially if reading through dozens of business cases is not your idea of a good time. C. E. Bagly and C. E. Dauchy’s The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Business Law may just be the perfect book for you. It is very easy to read, especially for those that do not have any prior knowledge about the topic. This book is good to start with so that you can understand all about business law. For some people, it may be the only book they need.

R. A. Mann and B. S. Roberts’s Smith and Roberson’s Business Law is more appropriate for academic purposes. If you are a college student who wants to gain a strong understanding of this subject, then this is the book for you. The good thing about this book is that it is regularly updated. It’s the perfect book for law students or students who are taking business law classes. Another book that is suitable for college students is Cengage Advantage Books: Business Law: Text and Exercises by R. L. Miller and W. E. Hollowel. The book is clearly written and is very concise; it uses the least complicated ways possible to explain a very complex topic. This will be the right book for those who have been facing difficulties in understanding most of the ideas that are written in thick, complicated textbooks.

Business Law by Robert W. Emerson is a compulsory read for those who are taking college level examination program (CLEP). Despite that, this book is also recommended for those who want to gain more knowledge about the topic. The book is relatively easy to read and it covers most of the important aspects of business law.

Different countries have different laws, and commercial law is not an exception, of course. West’s Business Law: Text and Cases by K. W. Clarkson, R. L. Miller, G.A. Jentz, and F. B. Cross integrates global themes as well as a vast assortment of cases. It is a good book for college students as well as business practitioners, and like any other textbooks, the content of the book is updated regularly.

One of the most popular books on this subject is R. L. Miller and G. A. Jentz’s Business Law Today. Many readers agree that this book provides cases that are relevant to the issues that many businessmen of today face when starting or running their businesses. This book illustrates the topic in the most interesting way possible and it does not have any unnecessary information, avoiding any possible confusion over a certain area of business law. This book is a good reference book even if you are not an academic or a student.

What Is a Capture Page? – A Quick Guide

Published: Saturday, April 7th, 2012 | Posted in Free Books

If you are just starting your internet marketing career, you might be wondering “What is a capture page?” Simply put, a capture page is what entices customers to join your email list or buy your product. The sole purpose is to capture customer interest, get them to subscribe, and sell them products. It is not the place to talk about yourself or your business, unless that is what hooks your customers. It’s the first page a customer sees when they click on ad, so creating a great capture page is crucial. A good capture page has a great headline, a body full of interesting content, reasons why a customer would buy your product/subscribe to your email list, and a compelling call to action.

The most successful capture pages describe a customer’s problem and then offer a solution to that problem. You will need to create a headline that generates interest. Your headline should be bold, but not so overbearing that it makes customers leave your site right away. “How-to” headlines seem to work well. Ideally, your headline will cover both the problem and solution in one sentence. Your headline should intrigue potential customers enough that they continue reading.

The body is your chance to connect with your customers and convince them to keep reading. If you have a personal story related to your product, service, or email list, share it here. Many people use videos or photos to make their story seem more compelling. You can also use eye-catching fonts and interesting colors to make customers continue reading. The body should also explain what someone can gain from your product or list. For example, say you’re trying to sell an e-book about making money online. You should mention how your internet marketing career began, how you became successful, what is included in the e-book, and what customers will gain from reading it. If you have done your work well, potential customers should be more or less hooked by the time they finish reading.

After the body, you should include a capture form that provides a place for customers to input their name, email address, phone number, or address depending on your goals. All that remains is to follow up with a call to action. You want to convince people that not only is buying your product or signing up for your list the best thing to do, but that it would be a huge mistake not to do it! Of course, creating a great capture page takes practice, but following the steps above will give you a great head start.

A Review of A S Byatt’s A Whistling Woman

Published: Saturday, April 7th, 2012 | Posted in Free Books

A S Byatt’s A Whistling Woman is a strange book. At one level it’s a straightforward account of university life, with its politics, affairs and academic pursuit. But then there’s the suspicion that none of this is ever satisfying for those involved. They yearn for something bigger, whilst at the same time trying to deny its significance in their lives. Another strand is the career of Federica, one of the book’s principal characters. Almost by default, she finds herself host of a BBC2-style arts review or in-depth discussion. She is forced via the subject matter of her programmes to re-examine a whole host of assumptions. So while the scientists try to identify a mechanism by which memory is both stimulated and fixed by means of electrical stimulation, Federica, via her television shows, offers apparently ever more arcane subject matter, leaving us confused as to what we think we might believe – or even remember.

And these are just some of the strands of plot and characterization in A Whistling Woman, certainly one of the more complex novels I have read in many years. I have not read the previous three works in the series. This may have been why I found a number of loose ends that seemed to have strayed and frayed from elsewhere.

And then there’s the alternative university that establishes itself near to the conventional campus of the University of North Yorkshire, whose acronym, obviously, is UNY, implying generality. The alternative people adopt true nineteen sixties postures, preferring question to answer, experience to knowledge, heuristics to instruction. When we recall this hippy, flower power, professedly liberated, free thinking era, it is wise to bear in mind that this is also the generation that elected Ronald Reagan, tolerated support for death squads in central America and felled the consumer boom of the later eighties. But at the time, these revolutionaries sought something transcendent in their anti-university and found it in a self-destructing religious sect.

But no matter what people profess, no matter what they research, they still sleep with one another, still get pregnant, still need mutual support. The 1960s complicated all of these things with a superimposed need for personal, transcendental fulfillment and expression, whilst, at the same time, destroying perhaps permanently any possible recourse to established religion. In A Whistling Woman, A S Byatt captures this confusion and dissects it, but she offers us no neat packages of analysis, no simple results by which we might identify its elements.

An African Childhood – Ake by Wole Soyinka

Published: Saturday, April 7th, 2012 | Posted in Free Books

I expected to get a lot more from Wole Soyinka’s Aké than I did. It’s not every day that the childhood memoirs of a Nobel Laureate come to hand. Expectation demanded something special, something revelatory perhaps, from the formative years of a man who grew up to be one of the greatest writers of all time. What Aké presented was in fact exactly what it said on the tin. It’s a childhood memoir. There are no great moments, no previously hidden insights on how to achieve greatness. But there is a life, and perhaps that is our clue.

Born into a teaching family, Wole Soyinka lovingly recalls a headmaster father he calls Essay and a severe mother nicknamed Wild Christian, who certainly is the ruler of the household. But around this potentially unlocatable family, there exists an eclectic mixture of Yoruba tradition, imported educational values and imposed colonial rule.

The young writer’s concerns, however, are exactly what might be expected of a growing lad. He chases things, explores, is naughty – sometimes very naughty! He is punished and rewarded. Life goes on. There are local concerns, sometimes wider ones. He eats plenty of good food and, by no means uniquely, but certainly eloquently, describes the multicultural reality of colonial West Africa.

Whether it was the reader or the writer is unclear, but when, about half way through the book, Wole Soyinka starts to relate his school experiences, Aké seems to change into a different, much more vivid book. Recollections become stronger, more deeply felt, more keenly described. What had already been a joy now becomes thoroughly engaging as well.

Wole Soyinka’s neighbours did become objects of great interest, and not merely because they figured in this book. Their name, Ransome Kuti, may be familiar. It’s a family that produced in successive generations two of Nigeria’s most famous musicians. Strangely, their family too lives its life just like the others, with no apparent inkling of the greatness to come.

As Aké progressed and this reader continued to search for what made the author such a great writer, it began to become clear that the only thing that made this man was experience, something we all share. Individually, any experience is unique; it does not need to be dramatic, violent, broken or ecstatic to be special. It is special because it was experienced. And this is what makes Aké, in the end, such a great statement. It’s life. Let’s get on with it.

Before You Write Fiction Perhaps You Should Do a Little Reading – A Book Review

Published: Friday, April 6th, 2012 | Posted in Free Books

Writing nonfiction is fairly easy and anyone can do it the writer knows enough about the subject matter. And most people are pretty good at telling stories, except that when it comes to writing it down in a fictional work all that goes out the window. The reality is it’s not very easy to write fiction and it never has been. In fact, we all know a good novelist when we read their work, as it is obvious they have superior skill. But have you ever wondered how they do it?

Have you ever wanted to be able to write fiction like that? Well, I believe you can even if you have just an inkling of creativity, and I believe you can learn these skills with the proper practice, training, and working knowledge of the topic. Perhaps, this is something which interests you, and maybe you’d like to write better fiction. If so, I have a very good book that I’d like to recommend to you. The name of the book is;

“This Scene Book; A Primer for Fiction Writers” by Sandra Scofield, and 2007.

In this book I learned how to set up the scene to help the reader visualize everything that was going on. Once you help the reader visualizes and jumps into the scene you have hooked the reader. The author of this book also explains the four basic elements of and emotional scene, namely; event, function, structure, pulse.

Indeed, I also learned how to weave tension into the story, and how to open a scene and capture my reader, as if I was opening the door and inviting them in. This was a very excellent book, and I’m going to highly recommend it to you, if you’d like to write fiction. Please consider all this.

The Poker Players Bible – How to Play Winning Poker- Book Review

Published: Friday, April 6th, 2012 | Posted in Free Books

I just finished reading “The Poker Players Bible – How to play winning poker,” written by Lou Krieger. I read a lot on poker subject as I run a poker blog, I like to well informed on what is going on out there. I think this book is one of the best poker books ever written. This is definitely the most comprehensive poker book I have ever read. This book covers all the basics and also covers detailed strategies and how to win at poker not just play it.

What I like best about this book is that the chapters are broken down almost like a book within a book. You do not have to read this straight through, you can pick it up and read a section at a time. In that respect this book is the ultimate reference guide for poker players. I also like the rich illustrations and the “fun” way the book is written and outlined. The section that covers the poker terms, or “poker lingo” is very helpful. In fact, I learned a bunch of terms that I have never heard of before

The one drawback is that the book neglects the online poker movement. Everything is written in the context of the traditional poker game.

In closing, I would recommend this book to the beginner to intermediate poker player. This book offers everything you need to start playing and start winning at poker. I would not recommend this book for experts because they will know almost everything that is covered.
